End of the road for zwane and Mamelodi Sundowns
A new contract between the Tshwane giants and Mamelodi Sundowns skipper Themba Zwane is about to be finalized, according to information given to iDiski Times.
After this season, Zwane, who is currently the club's captain, will have the option to renew his current contract with Tshwane Giants for an additional year.
According to reports, the 34-year-old is prepared to sign a two-year contract with a new one-year option to extend with the Tshwane giants, and his lawyer Jazzman Mahlakgane is expected to meet with Sundowns to seal the deal.
However, Zwane's longtime agent told this publication that no talks have yet begun with Sundowns.
Zwane made his PSL debut for the Tshwane giants in a 5-1 victory over Black Leopards on October 30, 2011, filling in for Teko Modise at the age of 22 years, 2 months, and 27 days. Zwane excels at passing the ball and playing in closed spaces.
The 34-year-old, who played for Sundowns and was loaned to Mpumalanga Black Aces during the 2013–14 season under the late Clive Barker, has won seven DStv Premiership titles, three Nedbank Cups, two Telkom Knockouts, one MTN8, the CAF Champions League in 2016, and the CAF Super Cup the following year.
For the 2019–20 season, he won the Player's Player of the Season, Midfielder of the Season, and PSL Footballer of the Season.
When Barker's squad won the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Doctor Khumalo, a former Bafana player, was the star of the national team, the late Barker stated that Zwane has similar abilities.
