The dream: Brooks Still Has Hope Of Returning To Bafana
Ethan Brooks, a midfielder for AmaZulu, claims he is making every effort to rejoin Hugo Broos' Bafana Bafana line-up after being left out since March 2022.
Brooks left TS Galaxy to join Usuthu before the start of the 2022–23 season. He arrived late in the pre-season and missed a significant portion of the season under then–coach Brandon Truter.
Because of his involvement with the Bafana B team during the COSAFA Cup in Durban, Brooks had trouble getting going last semester. However, Brooks has started each of the five games this season for new coach Pablo Franco Martin.
New signature Rowan Human, who arrived at Usuthu late in camp after taking part in the COSAFA Cup in June and July in Durban, is going through a similar process.
It has worked against him, as Martin acknowledged that Human, who was at his best with Maritzburg United in the latter half of last season, is still adjusting to life and is the reason he hasn't played much.
In contrast to Brooks, who had to overcome an injury that placed him on the back foot in order to get going, Human's goal was to become familiar with the AmaZulu side and to regain his fitness.
Brooks has provided an explanation for why he has started this season well after being left in tears in November 2021 after Bafana failed to make the FIFA World Cup the previous year.
In November, Bafana will play Benin to open the 2026 FIFA Cup CAF qualifiers. The Africa Cup of Nations finals (AFCON), which will be held in the Ivory Coast in January and February of the following year, will come after that. On Tuesday, Bafana will play Congo DR.
In March of last year, when Broos' squad lost 5-0 to France, Brooks was last seen playing for Bafana and is eager to return.
